About vitreous enamel:
The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level.

About gold paillons
Paillons are shaped emblems of gold foil. They are fused to a pre-fired enamel grounding and coated with clear enamels. This creates an illusion of chased metal inside the enamel. Paillons are made as small pre-shaped motifs, with a slight relief. Victor Mayer is one of the very few specialist workshops with suitable equipment and the expertise to make Paillons today. 

About Spinel:

Spinel has been used in used in jewelry for centuries. The earliest known spinel gemstones date back to 100 B.C. to excavations of Buddhist tombs. Most spinel in antiquity were thought to be ruby or garnet before the advent of modern gemology. Spinel is a mineral species belonging to a larger group of minerals with similar structures known as the spinel group. The spinel group is made up of spinel, gahnospinel, and gahnite. Spinel is the only one in the group widely used in jewelry
